Every day you hear about stories of person A making 10,000, 20,000 or more on auto pilot on the web . It always sounds so simple to do, but those people often (read: all the time) leave out one major factor. They do not tell you how many sites they have working with their method, and they do not tell you how many people they have either outsourcing work or actually working for them to accomplish this Think about this: people demonstrating methods that make them 30, or even 40k or more in a single month are not accomplishing that with only 1 or 2 web sites, writing a few articles each day, or placing a few ads. They very often have web sites numbering in the hundreds that they built up with a team of people helping them.

So given that this is happening, what are beginners supposed to do – everyone has to start somewhere. What you need to do is to make efficient use of your time and not have unrealistic expectations. I am going to share with you a method to get your traffic jump started and ranked on multiple keywords.  You can use an article directory to build links, social bookmarking, blogs, forum posting, whatever you are best at to make the links to your site with this method

You can use Google keywords tool for this step, or any other tool of your choice Type in the main keyword for your site, and have the tool automatically find related keywords. You want a list of about 200 or so keywords so you can sort through them by searches per month. Sift through this list and pick about 5 top keywords with about 2500-5000 searches per month, and then pick an additional 10 with 1000 or less searches per month, ideally with 4 words in the keyword (long tail). The normal method most people use is to pick the highest traffic focused keywords and try to build those up with back links. This is the opposite of the way it works in reality. While it makes sense that high traffic keywords are great, they are often very difficult to get ranked for and take a ton of effort and time to work on. The real secret to big traffic is to completely ignore the high traffic keywords and work on the long tail ones exclusively. While it might seem counter intuitive to work in this method, it will set up your web site for big traffic in the future. Targeting what might be considered sub optimal keywords are much easier to rank for as you should target a top 20 ranking in all of them. Once you have ranked all these, you should see some decent traffic numbers. This is exactly when you start in on the top keywords you had from earlier. Ranking for these harder names will be much easier now that you have done the other work, as Google will give your site an automatic head start based on the rankings of the other words. Because you worked on the other keywords first, the amount of work required to rank for these other words is probably cut in half.
