Are you interested in finding out about a day in the life of a web marketer? I am fully aware that each and every web marketer will work in a different way however what I am about to describe is a typical day that I used to have when I worked in this industry.

Being in this industry as a self-employed website marketer enables one to choose the amount of hours they work and to choose when they work. There is no set routine as in your average nine to five occupation and as such one can avoid having to drive in those miserable and frustrating rush hours. This is one of the reasons why I love to be able to provide SEO services and advice to various webmasters.

I for one would choose to work late at night as this is when I could concentrate the most and when I could get enough peace. I am able to work, free from any distractions such as the phone ringing or people knocking on my front door etc. I could therefore fully focus on the job in hand which was to work hard to obtain top ten rankings in Google for my clients websites.

As such my main working day would commence at around 10.30pm and this would last until around two.30am. I thoroughly enjoy working in this way and in this profession, it suits me.

My day would start at about half past seven when I would awake, clean my teeth and go to the toilet. I would however then return to bed until around eleven o’clock to gain a few more hours valuable sleep.

It may seem rather sad but I would have a quick read of my e-mails before eating a bowl of cerial for my breakfast. It would then be a short stroll to the shops to purchase a newspaper before returning home.

After spending an hour on the phone to update various clients on their current search engine rankings I would then take a drive to the golf club.

At around 6.15pm I would eat my evening meal before relaxing in front of the television.

10.It is now time to get down to some work; to promote the websites of my clients.

I am now a fully fledged member of the parenting club and life is rather more hectic these days – but I have to say is even better than before, if that is possible.

I am now involved in various projects including offering people fostering services as well as providing company’s with the ability to obtain cheap poster printing; something which is much sought after in a recession.

Life as a person who offers a web promotion service was, at the time, a very enjoyable one and I would certainly recommend other people to enter into this profession.

Within the last few years Google has waged a form of war against the paid links market and this has led to many page rank penalties – it is now virtually impossible to know the true page rank of a given site. This is mainly due to the controversial but necessary purge on paid links. This has resulted in many high traffic and powerful websites being given a page rank toolbar penalty. This leads to a new debate; should the Google page rank toolbar be replaced by another tool such as the Google page strength toolbar?

I personally have a number of websites to do with offering cheap hotel deals, jobs in foster care and composite doors – I have to say that I really do not care about page rank these days.

So what would this page strength rank represent? Well to answer this question we need to start by looking at what is wrong the current page rank toolbar. Many webmasters believe that a website has two actual page rank values, one that you see on your toolbar and one that is its real value that is only available to certain people within Google itself. So why would I want the two colours? Well I suppose Google are attempting or hoping that people will not continue to purchase text links on a site if the page rank they see on the toolbar is lowered.

My idea for page strength would be to have one true value shown on the toolbar but it would be displayed in one of two colours. With a site such as seroundtable I would suggest that it would have a pr6 in the colour red. This red colour shows danger, it shows the public that the site does pass on “link juice” which would indicate that it has been penalised. If your site passes this all important link juice then it could have a green colour – if the webmaster was then thought to be selling this “juice” then that green colour could turn red.

Many a site received a lower pr in the latest Google page rank update. This has caused the usual outcry with many website owners moaning and groaning on the many webmaster forums about just how unlucky they are. They seem to react like they have been punished by Google and worry that their website has been penalised in some way. So why is such a fuss made over this toolbar ranking, is the page rank of a website really that important?

The answer to the above question is a big fat no. The people are moaning that their website has had a page rank deduction really need to get a life. A couple of years ago all anybody ever seemed to talk about was page rank. The higher the page rank of a website, the higher its rankings would be and the more traffic it would receive, the best sites also seemingly had the highest page rank. This is no longer the case, take for example the website seroundtable. This site is renowned, has masses of traffic heading to it each and every day and has a ton of backlinks pointing to it – but it is only a page rank four. I have a blog which has a page rank of five and attracts hardly any traffic at all.

I run a number of websites to do with cheap holidays, stuttering and jobs in foster care and I really do not care about page rank.

The webmasters who are upset by seeing their website move from a page rank five to a page rank four are mainly the one’s who are new to this game. You do not ever hear any of the experienced webmasters complaining on these SEO forums.

Forget page rank and concentrate on rankings, that’s what I say. Do not waste your time debating on forums, spend your time in a more constructive manner by attempting to obtain one-way backward links and by writing new content for your website.

One of the best ways of gaining additional traffic is to build up the number of backward links you have pointing to your website. The best form of link is a one-way link, where a website adds a link to your site but does not get one back from you. There are a number of ways of obtaining these type of links including:

Writing articles. Writing articles like this one has many benefits. Other webmasters may add the article to their blog or website and this creates you a one-way link. The people reading the article are also potential visitors to your site~Then there are the people who get to read the article; these are also people who could visit your site if they clickthrough to it}. This is something that I have been doing to promote my stuttering therapy website and what is more I enjoy writing about the best way on how to stop stuttering.

Joining in debates in various forums. I also like to read through and contribute to a number of forums. Not only do I learn a great deal, I am also able to get links back to my sites when I make a comment.

Submitting your site to directories.

Making comments on other peoples blogs. This is my least favourite of all of these examples as it can be seen as spam. Other people however do think it can prove to beneficial. I must say that I stay away from anything that could be seen as spam.

If you are struggling to find content you could use other peoples articles to help you. It is a good idea to have each of the sites in the network on a different server. This however can be very expensive and therefore for a smaller business may not be best advice.

There are a number of ways in which you can fund the project such as adding adsense to the site as well as affiliate links. This may not bring in huge amounts of money but could go some way to helping with hosting and domain renewal costs – this is something that a good friend once did with his budget package holidays and cheap phone calls websites.

In the future this network could be worth thousands of pounds if you have spent enough time promoting each site. This is when you are able to potentially cash in on all of your hard work by selling all of the sites – then you can sit back and chill out – yes hard work pays off.
