Finding the Best SEO

Monday, August 10, 2009

Over the past few years SEO has sometimes got itself a bad name, this could be due down to various reasons, but the main reason is simply because the industry does have a lot of people that can talk the talk but when it comes down to actually obtaining rankings they fall very short of delivering.

A person who is not very tech savvy will not have any idea of what SEO involves or what they should be sounding out for. You may visit numerous search engine optimisation websites that say they have obtained top 10 rankings, but what for? What have these companies though really achieved in terms of rankings? Let us take a brief look at some of the signs you should look out for when choosing an SEO firm or individual.

Past Rankings

This is all important to look at, ask the business firm or person some of the rankings that they have previously achieved, if the 1st thing they come out with is something such as Go to the shop and buy widgets, then you know that they are not going to be able to accomplish large traffic and positions for you.

Where are They?

How did you actually find out about the firm or person? Do they actually have a website? If so where are they actually ranking. Are they solely just using PPC? I literally mean how can a site get good rankings if they cant achieve it for themselves?

Work Performed

Some people think SEO is some sort of secret, no it is not you should ask each and every person or company exactly what they are going to do and how they are going to do things. I mean a web design firm or company or development team would not try to hide anything so why should this be any different. Just keep your eyes open as there are many great SEO companies around.

Google have always been the ultimate force when it comes to search, the company itself has literally earned billions of pounds in revenue.

No other search engine has genuinely been capable to come close to Google merely because of the technology and market share that the company have. But that could all be changing soon as the announcement that Bing owned by Microsoft will be buying out Yahoo, the second largest search engine in the world.

But how could this joining of forces change SEO? Let us take a brief look. We all know that Yahoo are so much more better at analysing link patterns and citations then Microsoft are. So this technology will basically give the technological power of Yahoo to Microsoft. Bing will basically power all of the Yahoo search results in the future. But until Bing enforce Yahoos engineering science where will that leave a lot of businesses and SEOs?

We all know that the Bing search results are just not very good. So what could potentially happen is that a lot of traffic that comes from Yahoo could be wiped out in quick session, giving unknown sites that additional piece of coverage.

But I believe that once the Bing has Yahoos technology in place and both companies come up with new technology then Google should be getting very scared. I mean Yahoo really do have brains behind their engine and with the money that Microsoft have the joint company will be able to push forwards. And now is exactly the best time to do so as Google seem to be interested in other markets such as creating operating systems, and some of their search results do seem bad.

You’ve probably heard the old phrase content is king you know?  My tests have shown this is B.S.

This article is contrary to popular advice concerning blog marketing, but it is also correct.  I am not going to reveal the names of sites just to protect them as they are not my own sites.  However, I will reveal to you some things that I have discovered and why content is NOT King but ONE WAY LINKS ARE KING!

I have taken it up. A new challenge. My client’s pages could not go to the first page of Google. I went to work to get it done.

I went through those pages on the first page and really wondered how they were there.  All the pages were nasty, poorly written content that looked to have been written by someone who does not speak English, or by someone who English no speak.  I think the source is  a content spinner. They are not neatly written variations of sentences but a product of crap article spinning software.

Apparently due to an oversight or an over estimation of his abilities the previous SEO guy was going after competitive keywords he had very little hope of ever ranking for especially with these crappy content pages.

My kindergartner could do this with the free article spinner we downloaded in a couple minutes from download com.

The internal site structure was mixed up, the internal links had errors like ‘home’ as anchor text, the sitemap was missing, and you don’t even want to know what was coming in from other sites.

If Google or any search engine for that matter was properly optimizing content then obviously the page results that show up as top results just would never happen.  So after this exhaustive research what conclusions can we draw?

Each of these websites had tons of one way links leading to them, though they were often spam like links from untrustworthy websites.  Next I took a look at their poorly ranking pages to see if there were problems immediately apparent and sure enough there were because these pages had no or very few incoming links.

In a fortnight I became a hero. You know How? I copied the links from other pages. Now my client is able to be on the first page of Google for the  sites he hired me for.

I did this mainly to prove a point to them and get fast results and now am going back to get them quality links from power, authority domains so their sites will have staying power in their first page rankings.

They’ve entrusted their SEO needs to me, and I’ve found that the best way to maximize SEO using web 2.0 marketing blog tactics with lots of links.

You’ve probably heard the old phrase content is king you know?  I am here to tell you that you’ve been told a bunch of malarkey, because the so called gurus you might be following is blowing smoke up places where it shouldn’t be blown.

This article is contrary to popular advice, but it is also correct.  I cannot tell you which sites these were, since they aren’t mine to divulge.  However, I will reveal to you some things that I have discovered and why content is NOT King but ONE WAY LINKS ARE KING!

Recently I found this to be true because of the new client I started working for who couldn’t get to the first page of Google.

I looked at the pages they already had on the first page and found myself wondering how the heck they were even on the first page.  The quality of the writing on every single page was horrible, and seemed to be written by someone whose English skills where questionable at best.  It is obvious that the work was not well written, unfortunately it is easy to tell that someone was using a content article spinning rewrite program to complete the task.

To highlight just how bad the previous SEO guy had done, he put these crappy pages up in some very competitive keyword markets somehow expecting them to rank highly.  It was clear to me with only a moments glance there was no hope of that ever happening.

Sadly, a middle schooler could duplicate his work very easily using a free article spinner from download.com and a few minutes of his or her time.

The internal site structure was all messed up, the internal links had things like ‘home’ as anchor text, there was no sitemap, and I don’t even want to get into the trashy incoming links from other sites.

What is the result then? If content was king, these pages cannot be on the first page of ANY search engine. Why speak of Google?  So after this exhaustive research what conclusions can we draw?

All of the sites had mucho one way links to their domain even if they were trashy links from low quality and low authority websites.  Next I examined the sites which were on later pages of Google, and I discovered that even though the non-English content was the same, there weren’t any links.  So then I decided to take a look at the pages they couldn’t get ranked and see what the problem was…it turned out to be too few incoming backlinks.
