If you aren’t a guru then you may (like me) find keyword research difficult. Finding keywords isn’t actually the problem. The problem is though that most are next to useless, or at least seem to be.

I always believed that Google’s keyword tool gave highly accurate results. After all, they should be giving out accurate info. Well, that’s not always the case.

The keyword data you see will be out of date and wrong. However it would have been when they collated it. I accidentally discovered the answer to that puzzle.

I homed in on a key phrase with roughly 5000 competing websites. I was pretty confident I could get a result from that. I put out probably thousands of articles.

It didn’t take long to notice there were now over 9000 competing sites. My heart sank, I thought my task was gonna be twice as hard now. As it happens most of these extra results were my articles on these different sites.

What I’m saying is that I would have left it alone had I saw over 9000 competing sites. A lot of these sites were ranking with my article so I had a lot of competition but most of it was my own articles. A good result all round in my opinion.

Anyway, I decided to give a keyword research service a try as I couldn’t count on getting lucky every time. I liked the idea of good keywords being delivered to me every day. I had figured that the daily cost against how much work I would save is value for my money.

Of the keyword research services on offer I opted to try Travis Sago’s Instacash. Travis being numero uno in the bum marketing world. Bum marketing only costs my time so it’s my kind of marketing.

One or two good quality keywords delivered each day could save me hours of time. Two hours or so to me is quite valuable. Put that couples hours saved against the daily cost and it adds up to value.

I get a lot of emails from gurus banging on about outsourcing. I see this as nothing more than that. I’m paying someone else to research my keywords. I reckon that’s outsourcing.

The point I’m trying to get across is that had I looked at the keyword with 9000 competitors, I would have left it alone. As a lot of them were mine (or had my article on) I was competing against my self most of the time. A nice situation to be in!

I decided now to try a keyword research service as I couldn’t keep relying on luck. My hope was to get some ‘killer’ keywords delivered by email every day. I did a few calculations and came to the conclusion that research services, though not cheap, were value for my dollar.

I chose to give Travis Sago’s Instacash keyword service a go. Travis being at the top of the bum marketing pile. Bum (article) marketing is something I enjoy as it’s almost free.

I figure if one good keyword comes each day that should save me an hour or two’s work. Two hours or so to me is quite valuable. If I weigh the cost each day against my two hours work it clearly becomes value for money.
