I can safely conclude that those of you who know about how search engines work and reaching page 1 will see eye to eye with me when I say that backlinks are one of the top reasons why your site will get to the top! It is of course beneficial if you can get them for no cost.

To quickly explain, a backlink is fundamentally another link from another website that links back to your site,you might hear them referred to as incoming links. In a nutshell if you write an article and it has a text link in it pointing to your website, that is a backlink! Seems simple enough right? Another example is if you asked someone to put a link on their site to yours.

So getting these incoming links isn’t that difficult but it will serve you better if you get your linking from other site with content similar to yours. Lets say your site subject is about travelling the world, getting your links from other travelling sites will bring you better results, this is paramount as the search engines love relevant sites that link to each other. So every inbound link that comes from a similar site will do more for your rankings. Relevant backlinks are far better for your website.

Assuming that you will put in the work required you can get high position for most key words, visibly there are some key phrases that are just simply too competitive but there are plenty that you can rank well for. It’s really a case of who has the most backlinks, so if you want to outrank your friend, build up more backlinks then they have and providing your content is relevant to your chosen keyword, it’s probable you would beat them.

Not much to it really is there? It’s most important to be consistent, Google in particular loves regular backlinks popping up to your site, Google will take a high interest in you and consequently will place you higher. If you create some links and then bring to a standstill Google may get sad and loose interest in your website and we never want that!

It’s a real drag having to contact other webmasters to aquire links and it can also be very time consuming to get your articles published in the directories, I’ve done this before so I know! The ideal solution is to have an automated system in place where we can do the work just once then get on with our lives whilst our links are being built for us right?. What would be great is if we didn’t have to do anything! and it was all done for us on auto-pilot
