We’re going to start this lesson on the assumption that you’ve made a decision about a topic for your new site, and have done some research into the keywords that are associated with it.

Once you have drafted up your chosen list of keywords, and keyword phrases to target for your website, the following phase is to find a suitable, applicable URL. Something relevant, catchy, simple for visitors to remember and crucially SEO friendly.

There is a simple way to find a keyword-rich, SEO friendly URL which will help greatly when it comes to ranking highly in search engines.

Probably the most efficient way to find your new domain name is to use the www.GoDaddy.com bulk domain register tool which can be found on the bulk domain register part of their website.

You can do this by simply copying and pasting your keywords and keyword phrases into the domain form input box, and also your selected keyword phrases with the spaces replaced with ‘-’ (in notepad, choose ‘Replace’ then replace a ’space’ with ‘-’) for example mygreatdomain and my-great-domain.

After you’ve done that, tick the three most popular extensions (com, net and org) and you’re done! (I personally don’t recommend any others if you’re after the most hits). The form lets you input up to 500 keywords or keyword phrases at a time, and it’s an incredibly rapid process.

If your website topic is a highly competitive one, you may find that a lot of the domain names are already taken, and the register will tell you which ones have already gone. If you’re very fortunate you’ll be able to register a domain name which is also your main focus keyword or keyword phrase, and that will help a lot when it comes to search engine optimisation!
